We are so blessed to be in such a wonderful place to witness the growth of the dolphins throughout the year. Come on out with us on our dolphin tour and see these sweet baby dolphins for yourself!
Here’s a few facts about baby dolphins
·Baby dolphins are called a calf.
·The gestation period is usually around 12 months and most times are born tail first.
·Sometimes there is another dolphin that assists with the delivery called an “auntie”, this could be any dolphin male or female.
·The delivery happens on the move to help keep them safe from predators.
·The calf stays with its mother for the first 3-6 years if its life.
·They nurse exclusively for the first 3-4 months of life and then slowly introduce fish into their daily diet when they start to get their teeth.
·A female dolphin can potentially have a baby dolphin every 2 years
·They nurse for up to at least 12 months of life.
·At birth the calf fins are soft and floppy and gradually become firm
·Each dolphin chooses its own signature whistle.
There is so much more information I could share but the true wonder is getting to see them for yourself.
